urban fabric
English
Noun
urban fabric (plural urban fabrics)
(idiomatic, literary) The physical aspect of urbanism, emphasizing building types, thoroughfares, open space, frontages, and streetscapes but excluding environmental, functional, economic and sociocultural aspects.
It is such a widely used term in and out of the architecture/ urban planning circles. I probably have dropped the term one too many times myself, but I don't think I really know what it means. Maybe it's better used to coin clothes worn by people in cities, or clothes sold at big departmental stores/ big chain boutiques.
